Exploring Carpet Styles

When it comes to carpet flooring, a variety of style options are available, each unique in function and feel. Understanding the different carpet styles available will help you make the best decision based on your flooring needs. With all offering multiple choices of colors and prices, below are simple guidelines on how to differentiate among these styles.

Loop (berber)

Loop pile does not have exposed tips (unlike cut pile), it is particularly durable. A Berber carpet style is a suitable choice for high-traffic areas, such as family rooms, hallways, and staircases.

Pattern (cut and loop)

Cut-and-loop pile or cut-pile carpet provides a stylish finish with a soft, smooth feel and a range of distinctive patterns created by a combination of level loop and cut pile. The textured surface of pattern or cut-loop style carpet can disguise marks and stains; this material is another excellent choice for children's rooms or other high-traffic spaces.

Plush

Pile is cut to a smooth, level height. Plush carpet is extremely comfortable underfoot, making it cozy for bedroom floors. The carpet's look, texture, and durability are determined by its fibers. This material can be found in a variety of natural, synthetic, or blends.

Flatweave

A flatweave carpet is a type of carpet constructed by weaving threads to create a flat, two-dimensional surface without a pile, resulting in a thin, lightweight, and durable floor covering.

Woven

Commonly found with indoor/outdoor carpet and sisal and grass materials, woven carpet is created on looms by interlacing yarns.
